blow the whistle.

We had this conversation last year. Mike Brown, above all, is the problem. He has no actual gameplans, which isn't useful if Bron Bron gets in foul trouble, gets hurt, or has an off night. Having said that, if I were Mr. James, I'd leave Cleveland... who really wants to live there for the rest of your 20s?

and for good measure:

Well what are they supposed to win with if LeBron has an off night? Yes, Brown needed to play Hickson, an infinitely more competent p&r partner than Varejao, a lot more, yes, get the ball to West, who after LeBron and Mo is their only real playmaker, and yes, Brown did a pretty awful job of incorporating Jamison into the offense, but even if that team was ideally coached, I don't know that they could've withstood the kind of suckiness LeBron brought to the table for much of that series (and he was pretty awful in Game 6, misleading numbers aside). Jamison, to me, is just by nature a player who wilts once you put him on a good team. Like other stretch fours - Rashard, Rasheed - he can be pretty soft and passive on the offensive end. Mo's a mediocrity, of course, and if you play West too much, you're defensively way too small, putting all the headcase issues aside.

let me be clear in saying that i don't necessarily think the Cavs would win if everyone but LeBron plays better, but they are in a much better position to be competitive. then, if LeBron can get a couple late baskets or make plays, the game could go either way. having said that, the problems you listed are pretty spot on. i knew that Mo scoring left and right in the first half was going to disappear in the 3rd. and on top of that, rondo made him look bad, bad, bad.

By the way, what in the world is LeBron thinking (if the rumors are true) with this strange conspiratorial LeBron/Calipari/William Wesley alliance? What in the world does playing for Calipari have to do with actually winning in the NBA? Is the object at this point just to generate the most exciting/nefarious storyline that will keep us glued to Sportscenter/buy his shoes? Does he just think Calipari is a really cool guy? Calipari isn't even the first, second or third college coach I'd pick to coach an NBA team. And I'm not even so sure that Chicago makes a lot of sense. I've never seen a perimeter scoring duo take a team to a championship (except for Hamilton and Billups, I guess, but that's a different story). It seems to me that if you want to win a championship, the Nets, with Lopez, Harris, and one of Wall, Favors, or Cousins, is the most sensible move.

i think one of the issues with playing with the nets is that they have not moved yet, and aren't doing so for a couple more years, so i have a hard time really seeing the appeal there. i actually think he's a bit boxed in terms of both basketball (playing in jordan's shadow, the heat, playing in NJ as opposed to the garden) and his world domination plans (at some point he has to start winning rings, and he seems like he wants bright lights and real clubs after home games).

I don't really get how LeBron's world domination plans turn on what city he plays in. Esp. today, in the age of the Internet. I suppose it could be tough to dominate the world from North Dakota, but otherwise? LeBron's world domination is contingent on him winning championships. Another couple offseasons of this and his public image is in danger of turning into Tracy McGrady's. If he wins a couple rings, he becomes our Michael (although if he did it with Wade some people would say Wade was the real leader of the team), and that's true wherever he wins those rings.

i don't think his plans for a takeover change wherever he goes, i just think it's worth keeping in mind that he's an amazingly talented 25 year-old who has lived in ohio his entire life, and clearly enjoys big cities. at some point, he's going to want out, and to me, that is totally reasonable.
